How Restaurants Are Wooing ‘Flexitarians’

How Restaurants Are Wooing 'Flexitarians'

It is a difficult situation for the restaurants to cope with the quick shift of the citizens from animal protein.

A recent study of Dalhousie University revealed that one-fifth of the Canadian population has either reduced the quantity of animal protein from their diet or cut it off. And you will be surprised to know that who have willingly restricted the animal protein in their diet, 63% among them are under 38. This trend will reign shortly, and this is quite scary for the steakhouses.

Replacement Of Animal-Based Food With A Plant-Based Food In The Restaurants

The food service industry is quickly adapted to this trend by replacing animal-based food with plant-based food. For instance, A&W’s Beyond Meat Burger has sold out all the items within one month of its release at some outlets. Moreover, the report indicates that it is doing even better than the well-known burger chain in some locations. The reason behind its success is the taste. It tastes almost the same as the other hot selling food items.

Even the Mcdonald’s, a famous name in Canadian beef food is changing their recipes by reducing the use of meat.

In some places, posters are displaying the pictures of food and its ingredients to prove that there is no patty, only leafy vegetables, sauce, and bun.

The New Options

The restaurants are adding more vegetarian and vegan food options to their menu. Every week, you will have some kind of festivals or fairs where the food values and advantages of these foods are advertised to the world. And the shift is taking place too fast. It is only 20 years back when people used to make fun of the vegans. And today, most of them are staying away from animal-based food.

If not eliminating, the lion’s share of the people is reducing the consumption of meat. At least one member of a family, you will find vegetarian.

Meet The New Group, Flexitarians

The Dalhousie study also showed that a remarkable amount of the citizens are reducing the intake of meat temporarily, termed as flexitarians. Or you can call them conscious carnivores. They bridge the gap between the meat market and the dedicated vegetarians. These flexitarians reduce the consumption of meat due to various reasons. Some of them do it for an environmental reason; some have health issues. Even some people want to go for a cheaper diet instead of costly meat.

Some flexitarians choose it getting influenced by others. If any of the relatives or friends is vegan, they also opt for vegan food.

Vegans Are On The Look-Out Of Fully Vegan Restaurants

Flexitarians are always what restaurants prefer as they please both the dietary preferences. But the vegans have a different story. They are much restricted, and it is really difficult to find a fully vegan restaurant or food store in all locations.

But following the trend, the number of vegan restaurants is increasing gradually. And we will have more meat-free options in the upcoming days.
